Gregory Emfield, DO

Board Certified Ophthalmologist | Cataract Surgeons

Gregory Emfield, D.O. is a licensed osteopathic physician and surgeon in comprehensive ophthalmology. He is board certified. He became passionate about ophthalmology while serving an LDS mission abroad in El Salvador when he acted as an interpreter for an eye care medical mission group and was able to experience the profound positive impact it could have on patients’ lives. He remains fluent in the Spanish language.

Born and raised in Southeast Idaho, Dr. Emfield graduated from Idaho State University, with a B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in Foreign Language. He then went on to achieve an M.S. in Biology with an emphasis in developmental biology.

Dr. Emfield then decided to pursue a degree in medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, Oregon. He completed a traditional internship at Riverside University Health System (RUHS) and an ophthalmology residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in Colton, California.

During his training in Southern California he focused on and specializes in complex cataract surgery, intravitreal injections and laser treatments of medical retina conditions, glaucoma surgeries, strabismus repair, and eye care ranging from premature infants to the elderly. After training, he established a successful ophthalmology practice in Grand Forks, ND until he was invited to return home to Southeast Idaho to practice with Dr. John Fornarotto until his retirement. At that time it was his great privilege to be invited to join the exceptional Idaho Eye and Laser Center team. He loves southeast Idaho and the great people of the area that make it such a wonderful place to live.

Outside of work, Dr. Emfield enjoys spending time with his wife, their four daughters, and their Shar Pei, Zeke. He is an avid mountain biker, rock climber, reef tank hobbyist, and outdoorsman.
