Cataract Screening FAQs

Do I Need an Appointment for a Cataract Screening?

No. Free cataract screenings at Idaho Eye and Laser Center are available on a walk-in basis during screening hours. Simply visit one of our locations to get started.

When Are Free Cataract Screenings Available?

Walk-in cataract screenings are available at all Idaho Eye and Laser Center locations during the following hours:

Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM–1:00 PM

No appointment is required, and there is no charge for the screening.

What Is a Cataract Screening?

A cataract screening is a brief evaluation designed to identify possible cataract symptoms and discuss whether you may benefit from a comprehensive cataract evaluation.

During your screening, our team can discuss your vision concerns and provide information about cataract treatment, including cataract surgery and intraocular lens (IOL) options.

A cataract screening is not a comprehensive eye examination and does not replace routine eye care or a complete cataract evaluation with an eye doctor.

What Should I Bring to My Cataract Screening?

If you wear glasses, please bring them with you. Contact lens wearers may wear their contacts to the screening, but the lenses will need to be removed for certain measurements.

Do I See a Doctor During the Screening?

No. Free screening testing is performed by an experienced technician. You will not see a doctor at this visit.
